Tudor Oyster 9000/0 'Silver Dial'

The Tudor Oyster is one of Tudor’s most iconic and historic models. The very first Oyster models appeared in the 1940s, inspired by the well known Rolex Oyster, which was famous for its waterproof screw down crown and case back. The early Tudor Oyster models strongly resembled the Rolex Oyster and often shared the same case, crown, hands, crystal, and sometimes even the bracelet.

The Tudor Oyster reference 9000/0 was mainly produced from the 1950s until approximately the 1960s/70s. Tudor Oyster models were powered by a manual-winding movement, often supplied by external manufacturers such as ETA and Fleurier. A distinctive detail is the "Shock-Resisting" inscription on the dial. At the time, shock resistance was a strong selling point, and brands made sure to emphasize it. As a result, the movement is often equipped with Incabloc or KIF shock protection.

The vintage Tudor Oyster 9000/0 we offer here dates back to approximately 1979 and is in beautiful vintage condition. The silver dial displays a subtle beige undertone, depending on the lighting, giving it a truly authentic vintage look. The 35 mm stainless steel case remains thick, with sharp lugs that retain their original edges and curves. Additionally, the tritium on the dial and hands is still intact.

This vintage Tudor Oyster is also fitted with a folded Rolex Oyster bracelet (7835) with 361 endlinks, which shows some stretch—a typical characteristic of these models—but is still in nice condition. A fantastic combination, if you ask us!

This vintage Tudor Oyster 9000/0 has undergone a service and comes with a one year mechanical warranty from 10 over 10.

Tudor

Rolex was founded in 1905 by the renowned German businessman Hans Wilsdorf. In 1926, Rolex introduced the iconic Oyster, the world’s first waterproof watch. That same year, Wilsdorf had another ambitious goal: he wanted to create a watch brand that would be more accessible to a wider audience, while maintaining the same quality and reliability as Rolex.

To achieve this, he tasked Geneva-based merchant Philippe Hüther with establishing the Tudor brand. While Rolex distinguished itself with high-quality in-house movements, Tudor opted for third-party movements, such as those from ETA. This approach allowed Tudor to keep its watches affordable without compromising on reliability.

One of the key factors behind Tudor’s early success was its use of Rolex’s waterproof Oyster case. This gave buyers access to Rolex’s legendary durability at a more attractive price point.
