Rolex Explorer 114270 + Papers
The name Explorer, which dates back to the year 1953 already says it all...exploration, aka exploring! Rolex was involved in several explorations up to the 1930s and tested watches on Himalayan expeditions to make sure the watches could resist extreme temperatures and low oxygen levels. During the year 1953 came the high point for Rolex, when it was announced that Tenzin Norgay and Edmund Hillary reached the summit of Mount Everest with the Rolex Explorer. However, this watch did not have yet the Explorer features such as the large 3-6-9 dial and the famous Mercedes hand. Still, the name Explorer was registered by Rolex in the year 1953.
Looking ahead a few references and years, we arrive at reference 114270 which was introduced in 2001 and was in production until 2010. This was the very last reference Explorer with the refined 36mm case. This Rolex Explorer dates from the year 2005. With its thick case and sharp lugs, the watch is in beautiful condition. The original sticker is also still present on the back case. The Oyster bracelet is very tight for its age. This beautiful Explorer which is perfect for daily use (or to hike the Himalayas with), comes with its papers and 2 year mechanical warranty from 10 over 10.
