Rolex Datejust 16234 'Blue Applied Roman Dial' 1997/1998
After Rolex introduced the 160XX reference series in 1977, the brand launched the 162XX series 11 years later, in 1988. This series remained in production until around 2006. The 3035 caliber was replaced by the 3135 caliber, which was further refined. This caliber became the longest-used movement by Rolex. Additionally, Rolex stopped using plexiglass, and the 16234 Datejust was equipped with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, creating a beautiful mix of vintage and modern elements.
Over the years, numerous dial variations have appeared for the Datejust. However, the steel models of the 16234 had a relatively conventional selection of dial colors to choose from, such as the traditional white, silver, rich blue, and black dials. But as they often say: less is more!
This vintage Rolex Datejust is undoubtedly a true eye-catcher, with its so-called "blue applied Roman dial." The rich blue dial changes from a dark blue shade to a bright blue hue, and sometimes, when viewed from different angles, even reveals a purple undertone. This is something you certainly won't get enough of! The watch offers the perfect mix of vintage, modern, and sporty, making it suitable for any occasion in daily life. This Rolex Datejust 16234 from 1997/1998 is in excellent condition. The case and white gold bezel remain sharp. The period-correct, matching Jubilee bracelet with U clasp code shows some stretch but is still in good condition. The 3135 movement has received a full service. This stunning Rolex Datejust 16234 with blue Roman dial comes with a green Rolex tag and 12 months of mechanical warranty from 10 over 10.

Rolex Datejust
In the year 1945 the first Datejust was introduced in honour of the 40-year existence of Rolex, under the reference 4467. This was the first self-winding watch with a watertight case that also indicated the date. It even automatically transitioned the date after midnight. The Datejust was equipped with a serrated bezel and the famous Jubilee bracelet, especially designed for the Datejust. The date was placed on the 3-hour mark. Ten years later, in 1955, the date-window was given a "cyclops lens", which magnifies the date up to two and a half times.
Rolex's most iconic models were produced to function as "tool watches". The Datejust, however, did not have a specific purpose. This model was supposed to be a classic, reliable, everyday watch, suitable for any occasion in day-to-day life.
