Omega Speedmaster – FOIS
This 39,7mm First Omega in Space (FOIS) Speedmaster was introduced in 2012 at Baselworld. The FOIS's design is based off of the original Omega Speedmaster CK2998, which became famous when it was worn by Walter Schirra in space. The connections between NASA and the Speedmaster are a piece of well-known history among watch collectors. The relationship between Omega and NASA started when NASA was testing several watches to choose an official timepiece for their astronauts. In 1965, Omega finally came out on top. Production of the FOIS started in 2012 and continued up until 2020. In total, exactly 15.000 FOIS watches were made.
Omega
La Generale Watch Company, Omega's parent company, was founded in 1848 in the Swiss city La Chaux de Fonds by 23-year-old Louis Brandt. In 1866, Brandt passed away, leaving his company in the hands of his two sons Louis-Paul and Cesar. The two brothers brought many fresh, innovative ideas to the company, which led to the development of a new caliber in 1894: the famous 19-lignecaliber. This caliber was so precise, and subsequently, succesful, that the brothers decided to change their company name in 1903; the year "Omega Watch Co." was born. Since 1998, Omega is owned by the Swatch Group, under the name Omega SA.
