Cartier Santos 2319 Guilloché dial (W20040D6)
The Cartier Santos is derived from the Cartier Santos-Dumont, originally designed for Alberto Santos-Dumont. This iconic watch was conceived by Alain-Dominique Perrin, CEO of Cartier from 1975 to 1998. In 1978, Cartier, under his leadership, launched the gold-steel Santos, replacing the traditional leather strap with an integrated steel bracelet. Cartier also added 18K gold to the case and the band, giving the watch an extra touch of luxury. This model became extremely popular in the 1980s.
In 1987, the Santos was completely revamped and re-launched as the Santos Galbée (Galbée means "curved" in French). The case received a more refined design with rounder, curved lugs, making the watch more comfortable on the wrist. The Santos Galbée was produced in full steel or in a combination of steel and gold.
Many people know the Cartier Santos Galbée primarily as a quartz watch, but this model was also made with an automatic movement. The piece we have here is a Cartier Santos reference 2319, dating from around 1999 according to the papers. This model was in production from the late '90s until the early 2010s.
The steel Cartier Santos 2319 features a newly updated continuous bracelet with a butterfly clasp, giving the watch both a chic and sporty look. The razor sharp case has a diameter of 29 x 41 mm and is in excellent condition, with all original angles and curves perfectly preserved.
What makes this watch even more special is the dial. The white guilloché dial has a finely engraved pattern that beautifully reflects the light. This craftsmanship detail gives the watch a luxurious look and adds extra depth and elegance. A true eye-catcher!
Beneath the unique guilloché dial ticks the automatic Cartier Caliber 120, based on the ETA 2000-1 movement, with a quick-set date function. The movement has recently undergone a full service.
This stunning 1999 Cartier Santos 2319 comes complete with the original box, papers, booklets, and a 1-year mechanical warranty from 10 over 10.

Cartier
In 1847, Louis-François Cartier took over the jewelry workshop from his master. Over the years, his sons and grandsons inherited the family business, opening stores in London and New York. In 1904, King Edward VII of the United Kingdom even named Cartier "the jeweler of kings and the king of jewelers." Cartier became so popular that royal warrants were received from all over the world.
Cartier is primarily known for its jewelry but also has a very rich history in watchmaking. In 1888, Cartier began making women's wristwatches. At that time, it was more common for men to wear traditional pocket watches. In 1904, Louis Cartier gave a wristwatch to his good Brazilian friend, aviation pioneer Santos-Dumont, who complained about the impracticality of using a pocket watch while flying. The Cartier Santos-Dumont was not only the first men's wristwatch but also the first true pilot's watch.
The case of the Santos was seemingly inspired by a square pocket watch that Cartier had made. The design of the dial heralded a shift towards the Art Deco style that would define the 1920s and 1930s. To this day, Cartier's design is influenced by this. The case was designed to be robust, and the screws holding the glass were meant to resemble the legs of the new Eiffel Tower. The black Roman numerals also suggest the radial design of the streets and broad boulevards of Paris.
