Tudor Submariner 79090 - Pumpkin dial

The 79XXX serial (79090 and 79190) was the third and final serial of the Submariner collection from Tudor. This serial was produced from 1980 and continued in different variants up to the year 1999. Both references are powered by a self-winding ETA 2824-2 caliber with a power reserve of 42 hours.

This Tudor Submariner from 1993 is in excellent condition with its sharp case and the Rolex Oyster bracelet, which is tight considering its age. Tudor continued to produce matte dials and painted hour markers until the late 1990s. Rolex had already switched to the production of glossy dials and applied hour markers. The lume on the matte dial, together with the hands, is nicely discolored to an orange / brown color. The watch comes with the original Tudor papers showing that the watch was purchased in 1995 (New York).

Tudor Submariner

In 1905, famous German businessman Hans Wilsdorf founded the watchbrand Rolex. In 1926 when Rolex introduced the first waterproof watch, Wilsdorf created a new brand, called Tudor. He assigned trader Veuve de Philippe Hüther to create the trademark Tudor in Geneve. His goal? To design an affordable watch that shared the same quality as Rolex. Years later, in 1969, Tudor launched its Submariner models, which were produced up until 1999. Within these thirty years, over twenty different references with numerous variations, all retaining the principal Tudor submariner characteristics, would be produced. Rolex used high-quality in-housemovements. Tudor had his movements produced elsewhere and used ETA timepieces. This allowed Tudor to maintain its affordability.
