In the year 2003, Rolex marked the 50th anniversary of the Submariner. This was celebrated with the launch of the reference 16610LV at Baselworld. The abbreviation ''LV'' stands for Lunette Verte. This is French for ''Green bezel''. This model is also known among watch collectors as the ''Kermit''. This was the first Rolex Submariner with a green-coloured bezel combined with a Maxi dial. Rolex has always been associated with the colour green and this is also reflected in its logo, boxes, hangtags, etc. No official explanation was ever issued by Rolex as to why a green bezel was chosen. The Submariner 16610LV was only in production for a period of 7 years in which the model underwent several changes.
