Rolex Datejust 16234 'Silver/Creamy Tapestry Dial'

After the 160XX reference series was introduced in 1977, Rolex launched the 162XX reference series 11 years later, in 1988, which continued until around 2006. The 3035 calibre was replaced by the 3135 calibre, which was further refined. This calibre became the longest-used movement by Rolex. Additionally, Rolex stopped using plexiglass and equipped the 162XX Datejust series with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. In the late '90s, Rolex ceased using tritium and from the year 2000 onwards, all dials were equipped with Super-Luminova.

Over the years, a variety of different dial options have been introduced for the Datejust. However, the steel models of the 16234 had a relatively conventional selection of dial colours to choose from, such as the traditional white, black, deep blue, and silver dials. You will notice that this vintage Datejust does not feature a standard silver dial, but rather the beautiful so-called Tapestry dial!

This Rolex Datejust 16234 dates back to 1995. The watch is in magnificent condition! The case, along with the 18K white gold fluted bezel, remains sharp and appears unpolished. This bezel has two very small indentations on the side of the crown, which are hardly noticeable and cannot be perceived as disruptive. We have deliberately chosen to keep the watch in its original condition. Another feature we are very pleased with is the silver Tapestry dial. It has evenly aged along with the hands, exhibiting a lovely champagne/cream-coloured hue. The elegant, period-correct Jubilee bracelet shows minimal stretch for its age. The clasp has some very light scratches, but even here we chose to keep the watch in its original condition! The automatic 3135 movement has been serviced. Datejust

In the year 1945 the first Datejust was introduced in honour of the 40-year existence of Rolex, under the reference 4467. This was the first self-winding watch with a watertight case that also indicated the date. It even automatically transitioned the date after midnight. The Datejust was equipped with a serrated bezel and the famous Jubilee bracelet, especially designed for the Datejust. The date was placed on the 3-hour mark. Ten years later, in 1955, the date-window was given a "cyclops lens", which magnifies the date up to two and a half times.

Rolex's most iconic models were produced to function as "tool watches". The Datejust, however, did not have a specific purpose. This model was supposed to be a classic, reliable, everyday watch, suitable for any occasion in day-to-day life.
